Submissions

Image
This is frustrating. I have 2 pending submissions. One of those is to a pro-market with a zero acceptance ratio on Duotrope and the other is to a market a friend edits and he said he was holding onto my work, because he couldn't decide if he quite liked it or not. So, I'm figuring both of those are going to be rejections; it's just a matter of time. I really thought I was doing better about sending things out , but I still stink at it. My new goal: this weekend send out at least ten submissions - finish up some stories and poems and get my work out the door at least. I don't know how some people do it: keeping over twenty pieces out at any given time. Maybe they are simultaneously submitting things and I don't. I don't know. I just feel as I'm 2 steps forward 3 steps back sometimes.

Johnny Mercer's Pier

I've had several pieces published in Weirdyear, lately. It is a wonderful ezine that features new and unusual pieces on a daily basis. Today, one of my stories is on the front page. This is one of my personal favorite pieces for various reasons. I hope you like it. Thank you E.S.Wynn for giving this one a home; it needed it. Johnny Mercer's Pier This is what Poulenc's - Romanza , mentioned in the story...sounds like:

Double Whammy

I had a story and a poem go live today. I like when days like that come along. http://opheliastreet.com/2010/02/18/hollow/#more-1476 http://www.lobstercult.com/page17/page37/page37.html

Honest Scrap

Image
Over at Mercedes Yardley's blog she invited anyone willing to join her in the Honest Scrap challenge of posting 10 honest things about yourself. Here's my list: 1. I was born in Japan. My dad was in the military and my mother traveled with him. I have no Japanese bloodlines. My husband's mother was Japanese. His father met her in Japan while he was in the Army. My husband LOOKS Japanese, but he himself was born in Germany and has never been to Japan. In my house there are many Japanese things from his mother, who died when he was 18 years old and things my parents brought back from Japan. People assume the Japanese things are all his and are surprised to discover the truth. We both have foreign birth certificates and when we travel, like on a cruise, it's funny to see the expression on the people's face that process the paperwork. My husband does not speak Japanese. He has a heavy southern accent and I refer to him as a Japanese Redneck. He used to drive a red p...

What are your daily wordcount goals?

Image
I watched a documentary on Stephen King the other day and it was interesting to hear about his life. One of the things I filed away in my little brain was the fact he wrote 1,500 words daily. Some days he wrote more, but no matter what, he cranked out 1,500 words on any given day. I got to thinking about that and realized that would only take me about an hour every day, but if I did that - I'd have a novel, novella, or a ton of short stories in a matter of a few months. I'm adopting that goal for myself. From now on, I will write 1,500 words everyday. It may be a story, or continued efforts on a bigger project, but it will 1,500 words of NEW material. Editing is a whole different ball game. What are your daily wordcount goals?

Liquid Imagination

Image
Liquid Imagination has just posted an issue that features art, music, and text. It is a great concept. I'm pleased with how my poems turned out there - Brandon L. Rucker composed some music....Jack Rogers posted the art...and then there are two of my poems as well. The whole issue has things like this throughout....Bob Eccles did many of the audio readings of stories. You really should check this out - it's pretty cool. Liquid Imagination
